Michael C. Belmear
Michael C. Belmear is the Vice President for Student Affairs at Fairmont State College in Fairmont, WV. During his 30+ years at this college, he has been the director of the highly successful New Student Orientation in which he guides and motivates 250+ student volunteers, who will in turn work with the incoming class,in a very unique program. His work with parents includes"The ins and outs of letting go of your college freshman". In addition to coordinating many other campus programs, leadership conferences, and student activities he serves as crisis counselor and advisor to the Student Government. He also teaches Race, Class and Gender on and off campus to traditional and nontraditional students.
While taking a group of students to Italy, Belmear looked at the potential for an exchange program that would focus and embrace diversity. He created a "camp" that mixed students from urban Washington DC with students from rural WV plus international students from Italy to experience diversity and to create bridges of communication leading to community.
LEADERSHIP IS NOT VIRTUAL- the flip side to technology in leadership. Exploring and building meaningful relationships to inspire individuals to reach their own potential and to then reach others to help them up the same ladder to success.

He Began His Career:
In higher education at West Virginia University after receiving his Masters Degree in Counseling, he served as Admissions counselor for five years before beginning his career at Fairmont State. He has served on the executive board of the WV Association of Student Personnel administrators for 15 years where he also served as president of the organization and received their Distinguished Service Award. He was also appointed to the Governor's Commission for the Holocaust and presently serves as vice president.
With a compassionate yet energetic style and gentle sense of humor, Michael provides the motivational atmosphere essential to successful workshops, conferences and other special events.
