Lecture

Jane Elliott

Bio:

Ms. Elliott is convinced that Viktor Hugo was right when he told us that nothing can stop an idea whose time has come.  The idea of one race, the HUMAN race, is an idea whose time has come, and we'd all better be prepared to pass it on.

Jane Elliott received her teaching degree from the University of Northern Iowa. Chosen as one of Peter Jennings' ABC-TV's "Person of the Week," Jane is the adaptor of the "Blue Eyes, Brown Eyes" discrimination experiment. The sensitizing exercise, in which participants are labeled inferior or superior based on the color of their eyes, began in a third-grade classroom in all-white, all-Christian Riceville, Iowa, immediately after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It has been repeated with dramatic results with children and adults throughout the country. Those who have been through this exercise have said it is an emotionally significant and life-changing experience. This ground breaking exercise is the pinnacle of all other diversity programming in the country today.

Several television documentaries have covered her work, among them ABC's "The Eye of the Storm," which won the Peabody Award; "A Class Divided," which dealt with the long-term impact of the exercise and Ms. Elliott's work with adults and was broadcast nationally on PBS's Frontline series;, "The Eye of the Beholder," which also dealt with adults and their reactions to discrimination and was produced by Florida Public Television. Both the latter films received an Emmy Award and most recently released award winning film "The Angry Eye" is also available for purchase; download the order form.

The Angry Eye

"The Angry Eye" is a dynamic and provocative documentary, showcasing Jane Elliott's world famous Blue-Eyed/Brown-Eyed exercise in discrimination. The tables are turned on white American College students as they are forced to experience the same kind of racist treatment African Americans and other minorities have been receiving for years. In the documentary, students' reactions are intercut with Elliott's observations. The film is disturbing; both for the participants and for the viewers, who are made to confront their own prejudices.

Jane Elliott is a recipient of the National Mental Health Association Award for Excellence in Education. She has been a guest lecturer at numerous colleges and universities and has been a guest on a wide variety of television shows including The Today Show, Tonight with Johnny Carson, Donahue, and the Oprah Winfrey show. She is hailed as the leader in diversity training - a veteran presenter who has addressed groups ranging from colleges and universities, to civil service organizations, elementary schools, corporations and businesses.

Vince Morris

Bio:

Thanks for a GREAT show on Saturday night... I know I had a great time, and the students have been talking about it all weekend!  You were a great sport - and I think that keeping it very real with the students was most appreciated - and damn funny! Dean of Students, Dominican College

Two programs- Comedy and/or  R.S.V.P.- Reality of Stereotypes Versus Perception a Diversity Lecture

Vince Morris is surrounded by ignorance everyday, and is afraid he is the only one who sees it. With his smooth charismatic style, this Columbus, Ohio native delivers passionate views on race, family, relationships and life. Vince brings his audience into a world where the ignorance we accept daily is challenged by his dangerously funny and controversial material. the best way to describe Vince Morris: "If Malcom X did stand-up comedy."

When asked if Black athletes advertising shoes are role models; Vince responds, “I don’t give a damn what kind of shoe an athlete wears…what kind of shoes do Black surgeons or lawyers wear? What shoe is Johnny Cochran advertising? Now that’s the commercial! When you can get a brother off of a double homicide and the whole world knows he’s guilty- that is a bad ass shoe!”

Vince’s voice is strong and spreading quickly, hitting the road headlining at comedy clubs, theatres, and colleges around the country. Now a Los Angeles resident, Vince has flourished into television on such shows as Comedy Central’, The Late Late Show, NBC’s Friday Night, Premium Blend, BET’s Comic View and HBO. Vince has also been featured at  the prestigious Montreal Comedy Festival and U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado.

Vince Morris provides an even bigger departure from the “Def Comedy Jam” norm. Bespectacled and soft-spoken, he neither looks nor sounds like the stereotypical black comic, and that in a way is the point of his very smart act.  New York Times

Your thoughtful, timely presentation was critical to fostering discussion about issues facing or community and to promoting action strategies we can implement as we continue to move forward.  For that we thank you!  Diversity Conference Planning. City of Hopkinsville, KY

It was this "edgy" material that got people laughing. "I thought it was wonderful," said a freshman.

One of his jokes was about how he is disgusted by the fact that white CEOs think that the only way to market to young African-Americans is by having music in the background of the commercial, no matter what they are trying to sell.Westminster College- Utah

John Waters

Bio:

"Life is nothing if you’re not obsessed."
- John Waters

John Waters’ one man spoken-word lecture entitled “This Filthy World” is performed at colleges, museums, film-festivals and comedy clubs around the world.  He has played to sold out audiences at the Traverse City Comedy Arts Festival, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Bonnaroo, the Sydney Opera House, Volksbühne Berlin, and Southbank Centre in London.SOLD out POP MONTREAL!  Audiences in all languages love John Waters

John Waters is a man of many monikers:  The Prince of Puke, The Duke of Dirt, The Sultan of Sleaze.  Anyway you put it, John Waters is famed the world over for his trash epics including  "Pink Flamingos", "Female Trouble", "Desperate Living", "Polyester", "Serial Mom", "Pecker",  "Cecil B. Demented", and "A Dirty Shame".  Two of his more surprisingly commercial films have been adapted for the stage.  "Hairspray", winner of eight Tony Awards and "Cry Baby - The Musical" nominated for four Tony Awards.   In the summer of 2007, "Hairspray" reinvented itself cinematically as a big-budget Hollywood movie starring John Travolta that became a smash hit worldwide.

"This Filthy World" is Waters’s rapid-fire one-man spoken word "vaudeville" act that celebrates the film career and joyously appalling taste of the man William Burroughs once called "The Pope of Trash".  Updated and expanded from the original film version that enjoyed critical success at the Edinburgh, Toronto and Berlin Film Festivals, the live performance of "This Filthy World" focuses on Waters’s early negative artistic influences, his fascination with true crime, exploitation films, fashion lunacy, the extremes of the art world, Catholicism, sexual deviancy and a love of reading.

Not only was it entertaining, the show had a big learning aspect to it. Conversations were started that normally never happen and those dialogues are still continuing." The Universtiy of Georgia

The audience was VERY responsive and VERY impressed with what these guys did. It was a mixed audience, more white than black by a long shot, which surprised me a bit.

These guys are as nice and congenial, as flexible and cooperative as anyone ever. A presenter couldn't ask for a more pleasant "work day." Their material is SO spot-on, just to the perfect "edge" in every way - with never going over or too far. They're very, very smart in reading their audience. They know where they can take them, they know where they can create a crack in prejudices or stereotypes, and they do so with a humor and warmth that just brings everyone closer and closer - not only to them but to each other. In that way, their work is truly "medicinal," in the best sense of the word.

"We had ANT on campus for his comedy show one night followed by his Bullied, Bashed, and Not Broken lecture the next day. It was an amazing experience to see the effects of both shows on our students and how he tied everything together in the end about loving oneself. If you want a show (or two) that will truly make a difference at your campus, ANT is the perfect choice!" - RHPB and The University of Akron!

Hyper, irreverent, and just downright fabulous, ANT (spelled in caps) has steadily climbed the comedy hill to become one of the most successful comedians of our time. The lecture- BULLIED BASHED BUT NOT BROKEN

Floundering in life for years, ANT moved to Los Angeles seeing fame and fortune.  He began to run with a fast, party crowd and soon his world started unraveling.  BULLIED at school for being different- gay, of immigrant parents, having funny lunches (everyone can fill in their own blanks) and peer pressure highlighting the need to fit in lead him into a dark dance with the devil.  Years of alcohol, Meth.,and Heroin abuse brings him to the brink of  insanity.  Almost homeless, desperate for a way out, he chooses suicide.  But life had another plan.

ANT's amazing journey will take you through - self-doubt, internalized homophobia, depression  and chemical dependency.  And when he hits rock bottom...The light – inside all of us - began  to shine.

What follows next is an unforgettable journey from hell to happiness.  A visitor from above or the most vivid dream he's ever had, lead him to the path of recovery. His is a story of hope and redemption.   He'll reveal how each of us has an infinite power and infinite potential within us.

The ability to command into existence anything we desire. Tears, Laughter and Triumph.  Your change starts now.

Currently ANT lives in Los Angeles and has been  clean and sober for nearly 6 years.

And most powerfully of all, they hear Ant tell the story of his longtime relationship with his partner, and of the mix of funny and sad moments that seasoned his last year, before dying of non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

“I’m sharing the pain of my true experiences with you not only to honor him, but also to show that I’m willing to put it all up on the stage, just like I’m asking you to,” says Ant. “If you bring real truth to the stage about who you are, it will be unique and funny and heartfelt and memorable.”

I have never dealt with a nicer celebrity than Ant. He was so humble and grounded which made my job much easier. He barely requested anything and he was more than happy to meet people and sign autographs. He asked as many people as he could to go out to dinner with us after the show. At dinner he was just as funny as he was in his show and he gave us students genuine advice. He bought everyone at dinner drinks and he was even respectful at 5 am when I took him back to the airport. I would love to have him back anytime. I wanted to send him a thank you note. Can you send me his address so I can send him the thank you note, or can you send me your address so you can send him the thank you note? I greatly appreciate your sincerity and professionalism on Ant.
