Drawn from a true event- Edith and Me has been called a “Tour Du Force” and has won awards across the globe.  A Beautiful young cabaret singer is kidnapped and attacked and loses her voice.   The ghost of Edith Piaf comes to her to tell her to fight back with the tools she has and not be a victim twice.

The hour-long performance draws on the tradition of French cabaret. The actress repeatedly engages in improvised interactions with the audience. While discussing the most serious matters, she maintains a sense of perspective. And while she doesn’t perform a concert of Edith Piaf songs, they permeate the entire performance, connecting Edith and Yael’s dialogues, all the way to the finale, “Non, je ne regrette rien,” performed in the final section with the audience.

Edith&Me is a moving performance, virtuoso, masterful. And at the same time, a hymn of love to puppets. Their presence elevates everything to a meta level. It transforms a specific story into a universal truth, and everything that even borders on timelessness takes on a special power and significance. Like the work of Edith Piaf. Like Yael Rasooly’s place among the galaxy of masters of contemporary puppetry.

Rasooly trained as a classical singer and pianist before studying theater design in London, bringing a unique, multifaceted artistic perspective to her puppet theater. 

Her work is intended to help people heal and find their own voices through artistic expression, often in a way that challenges audiences.  

Yael Rasooly often draws on her own traumatic experiences and memories, or on various forms of violence against women and children. This is no exception in the latest premiere, “Edith&Me ,” co-produced with Norway’s Nordland Visual Theater. Sometimes, the performance is even billed as based on a true story. And while some scenes do draw on Rasooly’s life, it’s not a biography. It’s a full-blooded theatrical production, full of tension, twists, compelling drama, jokes and spontaneous humor, a variety of theatrical devices, and, of course, emotion, sometimes gripping.
